How We Hold What Won’t Stay

To build around what disappears, to preserve or to persevere. Objects that corrode, bodies that grow old, places that become unrecognisable. What feels solid buckles. We pull back or be pulled, and sometimes simply hold tighter.

Traces of the past, materials encountered by chance. To gather, to bind, to share and withhold. To reach for what is leaving, to grasp at what cannot be kept. It passes through us, and we resist its passing.

Perhaps holding is a reflex. The quicker something slips, the tighter that we grip. We hold onto what is leaving, not because we can keep it, it’s easier than letting go.
